Dark Tales: Volume XIV

For me, Georgina Bruce's Dark Tales debut brings to mind a hybrid of classic 1950s sci-fi and David Cronenburg's visceral horror - see if you agree. This volume has many textures and shades, from the black humour of Sally Spedding's Home Truths to Katherine Spink's silicon chip-infused Interaction, proving that the short story is definitely alive, kicking, and as entertaining as ever.

Dark Tales: Volume XIII

Carla Grauls opens our thirteenth volume with the metallic clang of a dystopian future. Elsewhere, Priya Sharma and Desmond Meiring paint contrasting pictures of Africa, a young lad is transported to the dawn of humanity, and something far worse than cattle is lowing in the barn.  And just what is in the freezer in the tale of a Beast?

Dark Tales: Volume XII

Australia and creepy crawlies feature largely in this collection, as do winged beings and, of course, Mr Grim come to do his Reaping in differing ways…And after reading Chris Warner’s Famine you might be giving elevators a miss for a while.

Dark Tales: Volume XI

In this witch’s brew of dark delights, prepare to read two terrifying tales with a botanical twist, a spine-chilling warning against tinkering with Mother Nature, discover a debt with horrific consequences and dare to watch a mind-bending motel television set from behind the sofa. Then round it all off, by way of a detour to each of two misfits with equally grisly penchants, with a visit to the moors of Victorian Scotland, where roams a creature neither man nor beast.

"Another large helping of dark and disturbing fiction arrives in the form of Dark Tales #11. The whole issue is
entertaining and varied in contents, and looks and feels quite smart too..." - Gareth D. Jones, SciFi UK Review.
